So here it is, time to enjoy my “merry X-mas 2015 dram”. This Glen Grant is a very special dram. For me it’s by far the oldest whisky I’ve ever tasted. Number four in this series, provided by Gordon & MacPail, we present Glen Grant 1954.
When I received the package with the four samples of the Wood makes the whisky campaign, this one immediately got my attention. A whisky, distilled 61 years ago, that’s something special for every whiskyhobbyist. I managed to save it untill X-mas evening and yesterday it was time to open the sample.
This whisky was bottled at 40% ABV after 57 years of maturing in Sherrycasks. I wonder how the wood made this whisky.
- Nose: Big sherry influence, dark chocolate, coffee, leather, a bit waxy as well.
- Taste: Wow, this a smooth whisky! Full flavoured, lots of chocolate, coffee and some tannines. some caramel as well.
- Finish: Long, warming finish. Starbucks caramel frappuccino like.
I feel honored to have had the chance to taste this very special dram. It’s in a pricerange that normally is way out of my budget. Thanks Gordon & MacPhail!
